Very impressive, Ejaz Sahab’s range of knowledge however he must reconsider the idealism that over powers his arguments.
"Control of Generals" in democratic societies is not just about civilian leaders knowing some magic, it has to do with the general societal attitudes as well. In ignorant, tyrannic societies like we have in Pakistan or other Muslim nations, it is hard to get the civilians to do this.

The question about the basic training of General Munir is absurd, antagonistic, and completely nonsensical. It does not make any difference where the general officer was trained. If he can move up the professional ladder successfully and become a Lt. General, that means he is quite capable and he is not the only one to reach the 2nd highest rank (now first), there is a large number of general officers who came through short service/ OTS and proved their professional skills and became generals. K.M. Arif (also a four star) was from OTS. A large number of US generals are not from West Point but from Officers Candidate School (an American equivalent to OTS) or ROTC. Are they any less capable, absolutely not.

The point being that what is wrong in Pakistan today has much to do with wrongly motivated senior military officers. Something has gone seriously awry. It has done untold harm to the country as well as the institution itself. To blame the latter as a whole is misguided and misdirected. For a start, the criteria for the selection and promotion of officers have to undergo close scrutiny and drastically change to ensure that only the individuals dedicated to the profession rise to senior positions.
